About Hosting

It seems so easy to find a good place to host your web site. There are thousands of ads for hosts and all of them promise you the moon. BEWARE! All web hosts are not the same, many are unscrupulous and will tell you anything you want to hear. NEVER go with anyone who advertises Unlimited anything. That should be your first indication that they are to be avoided.

I have used many different servers, some claimed to be unlimited. Sure, you can put an unlimited number of sub-domains, mail accounts, etc. BUT, you are limited as to the number of files you can have. Most limit the file count at 50,000 and while that seems like a lot, it isn't. They aren't just counting the files on your site, they also count the ones they require to store and manipulate data, logs, /etc files and even EMPTY files that are created temporarily for system use and never deleted. A simple 5 page web site could require up to 10,000 files.

Recommendations

Stay away from HOSTMONSTER and BLUEHOST (both owned by the same company). They claim to be unlimited, that's a lie. Service is lousy and they are poorly trained.

Highly recommended: InMotion hosting. Excellent service and prompt response.

We have no connection with either site. We do however run this and other wed sites on InMotion servers. We also run a few on Hostmonster but are in the process of moving them.
